To Luke it was important to show that the Christian movement originated in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, and therefore had its origin in the place, Jerusalem, where Jesus had been crucified and raised by God from death; and that after it's establishment in Jerusalem it had spread to parts of the world other than Palestine, and to people other than Jews. The story of this expansion was known to him in terms of places--Samaria, Caesarea, Antioch, and beyond--, and in terms of outstanding men--Peter, Stephen, Philip, Paul. He set down, one after another, the traditions he had collected on this basis.
