There are degrees of alienation but these contribute to our understanding. The alienated may feel powerless, life is meaningless, and norms are lacking. Social isolation and self-estrangement complete the syndrome. It is believed that this malady can be lessened and that the applications suggested may pave the way for more satisfying relationships and better adjusted individuals.
