Lectures in Systematic Theology Henry Thiessen Published by Systematic Theology
Author: Henry Thiessen
Publisher: Systematic Theology
Description:
First published in 1949, Lectures in Systematic Theology has been a valuable resource for students, pastors and teachers. Revised by Vernon D. Doerkson in 1979 and reprinted in 2002, it is now even more valuable. Changes which appear in the revised edition include: the replacement of older citations with more current biblical and theological works; the addition of a section on personal eschatology; revisions to the sections on inspiration, election, demons, and pretribulationism; a new chapter on the Holy Spirit; a full bibliography for further study. The first two chapters of the book serve as an introduction to theology, focusing on its nature and our need for theology. Each of the eight parts of the book looks at a different aspect of theology. Part one examines theism, the definition and existence of God, and the non-Christian worldviews. Part two is about bibliology, focusing on issues of revelation, credibility and inspiration as they relate to the Bible. Part three examines theology proper, looking at the nature, decrees and work of God. Part four is about angelology, and looks at the origin, fall, classification, work and destiny of angels. Part five focuses on anthropology, offering information on the origin and character of man, his fall, and the consequences of sin. Part six looks at soteriologyand emphasizes the person of Christ, his work, the work of the Holy Spirit, election, conversion, justification, regeneration, sanctification, grace, and perseverance. Part seven focuses on ecclesiology, looking at the founding, administration and destiny of the church. And, finally, part eight focuses on (fittingly) eschatology, the second coming of Christ, the resurrections, judgments, the millennium and our final state. Lectures on Systematic Theology offers surprising depth for its relatively small size (only 450 pages). Its divisions, focusing on God, the Bible, angels, men, Christ, the church and end times, cover all major Christian doctrines in a clear and polished manner. Long used in seminaries and Bible colleges, this book will continue to inspire students of the word and to grow a people for God.
