A Reason For Handwriting Kindergarten--Student Worktext Carol Ann Retzer Published by Penmanship Handwriting

Description:
Great for pre-school and kindergarten! Students begin by tracing dotted lines (paths) that lead a fun character from left to right across the page. After a suggested activity of blowing bubbles, students are given a beginning lesson in forming round letters by tracing the dotted lines of bubbles on a work sheet page. They learn to start on the starting dot and move their pencil counter-clockwise around the circle.
At this age, students are taught to write in the manuscript form. Manuscript is the style that dominates our world; from billboards and street signs, to cereal boxes, to computer screens and keyboards, to textbooks students use in school. It's much easier for children to imitate in writing what they see every day, rather than learn a separate alphabet just for handwriting!
In much the same way as the 'bubbles lesson' students trace and then color a bunch of grapes for more practice forming round letters in the proper direction. From there, they learn about straight and diagonal lines and how to make each one on manuscript lined paper (included in the workbook). After just a few more lessons to reinforce the direction for drawing circles and lines, students are introduced to writing the letter 'o'. They use the manuscript lines in the workbook to practice this letter and on the facing page get to color a large octopus and trace the 'o''s in the printed word. The entire alphabet, upper and lower case, is introduced in this manner.
Additional practice and activity pages for each letter are then included to help students practice what they have learned. Since students are only beginning to learn to form letters, this is the only grade level where entire Scriptures are not written for each lesson. The focus of this 142-page text is proper formation of letters and beginning sounds.
